Hand-Felted 12x6' Wool Rug "Namda" from Kashmir - Sheep Wool Felt Base with Floral Embroidery

Immerse yourself in the mystique of Kashmir, where sitting on the floor is a traditional practice regardless of wealth. Combat the cold floors of the Himalayan region with our exquisite Namda rugs. Hand-felted and embroidered using pure wool, they are not just decorative rugs but magical pieces of unique textile art. Ideal for beautiful floor seating arrangements, they also double as decorative bed covers or bohemian tapestries to adorn any corner of your home. Experience the "natural feeling" of this cozy boho essential.

This one-of-a-kind Namda rug features a sheep wool felt base dyed in white and meticulously embroidered with woolen threads in a traditional Kashmiri floral design. The stunning color combination ensures it becomes a captivating centerpiece in your home.

Approximately 6 x 12 feet in size, please note that Namdas are never perfectly rectangular or straight. Crafted from pure sheep wool and embroidered with vegetable-dyed wool threads, this specific rug is truly special due to its "all-over embroidery" technique, which takes around 5-6 weeks to create.

We offer a range of designs and sizes, with pricing based on the design, size, and craftsmanship involved. Explore our other designs for further inspiration at: www.etsy.com/shop/theshantihome

The Story of a Traditional "Namda":

Himalayan sheep wool sourced from the mountains of Kashmir undergoes a meticulous process. It is collected, cleaned, and dyed before being spread evenly in woolen flakes on a jute mat (with a minimum of 3 layers, like a sandwich). The mat is then rolled tightly and compressed by rolling it on the floor using hands and feet for an extended duration. The resulting plain Namda is then dry-washed by local women and finally hand-embroidered with Aari (needle hook) using traditional floral designs, though geometric and modern designs are also possible.
