Our Amazing Artisans
The products you find at The Shanti Home are not manufactured in a factory. Each piece is the result of hours – sometimes weeks – of skilled handwork, carried out by artisan families who have been perfecting their craft for generations. We want you to know who made what you hold in your hands.
We currently work together with four producer families, each specialising in their own regional tradition of Indian textile craftsmanship.
Kashmir – Namda Felt Rugs

Deep in the Kashmir Valley, at the foot of the Himalayas, our Namda rugs are born. The process begins with pure Himalayan sheep wool, which is hand-felted using an ancient technique: the wool is layered, soaked in warm soapy water, and rolled by hand for hours until it forms a dense, durable felt. Once dry, skilled embroiderers stitch intricate floral and geometric patterns by hand – a process that can take several weeks for a single rug.

This tradition has been practised in Kashmir for centuries, and it is one we are deeply committed to keeping alive. Our Kashmiri producer families have been our partners since the earliest days of The Shanti Home.
Kashmir – Crewel Embroidery

The second craft we source from Kashmir is crewel embroidery – a breathtaking technique in which colourful wool threads are stitched onto cotton or linen by hand, creating richly textured, painterly patterns. Kashmiri crewel work is recognised worldwide for its beauty and intricacy, and the artisans we work with are true masters of this art.
Rajasthan – Patchwork & Toran Door Hangings

From the vibrant state of Rajasthan comes our collection of patchwork pieces and traditional Toran door hangings. Our partner family here works with colourful recycled and vintage fabrics, transforming pre-loved textiles into something entirely new. This upcycling approach is central to our values – giving new life to beautiful materials that would otherwise be lost.
Gujarat – Vintage Sari Patchwork
In Gujarat, our partner family specialises in working with vintage saris – salvaging these gorgeous, often century-old fabrics and reimagining them as cushion covers, bags, throws and more. Every piece in this collection is truly one of a kind, carrying the history of the fabric within it.
Our Commitment
We visit our artisan partners in person as often as we can. Fair payment, safe working conditions, and respect for their craft and time are non-negotiable for us. We do not work with middlemen – every product comes directly from the hands that made it to yours.
When you buy from The Shanti Home, you are not just decorating your home. You are directly supporting the livelihoods of these families and helping to keep centuries-old craft traditions alive for future generations.
